Our IT Advisory webpage, or Status Page, is located at https://viu-it.statuspage.io/ and provides up-to-date information about the operations of Vancouver Island University's Information Technology systems and services.

Scroll down on this webpage for an entire list of IT scheduled maintenance and incident history.

Routine IT Maintenance Outages

Much like maintenance for an automobile, the IT Department has routine tasks that need to be performed to keep our technology running.

Some of these are done weekly, and some are done monthly. The impact of each maintenance task can vary depending on the work being done. This can vary from behind-the-scenes tasks with no impact, to a service becoming completely unavailable while the system updates or restarts. Below is a brief breakdown of some of these tasks that may impact you.

Weekly Maintenance Items

VIU Hosted Websites - Every Tuesday from 10 AM to 3 PM

Description: We are deploying software updates to the systems that host VIU’s websites.

Impact: This will not impact visitors to our websites. However, website editors may experience a slowdown when uploading new content.

Preparation: None.

 

VIU TDX Ticket Systems – Every Friday from 9 PM to 12 AM

Description: Our vendor installs weekly updates to the ticket systems used by IT, CIEL, Brand and Marketing, and the Computer Sciences department.

Impact: During the maintenance window, these systems are unavailable. Email responses to tickets will queue up and be processed once these systems come back online.

Preparation: None.
