Step 1: Read the Microsoft Teams Guidelines
Before submitting your request, please ensure you have read and understood the Microsoft Teams Guidelines.
Step 2: Submit a Ticket to IT Help
To request a Microsoft Team, please email ithelp@viu.ca with the following information:
For Standard Teams:
- Date Required By:
- Team Owner:
- Secondary Owner:
- Department:
- Microsoft Team Name:
- Microsoft Team Description (1-2 sentences max):
- Confirmation that you have read and agree to the Teams Guidelines: (Initials)
For Instructional Teams:
- Primary Instructor:
Email Address (must be @viu.ca):
- Additional Instructor(s)
Email Address(es) (must be @viu.ca or @my.viu.ca):
- Course Code:
Example: HIST482_N01_F2022
Note: If your course is Continual Intake that spans multiple course codes (Example: ENGL067_W01_C2023 and ENGL067_W01_C2024) and you would like a single Team please submit your course code with CI on the end instead of the year (Example: ENGL067_W01_CI). If you would like multiple Teams instead, that is also fine, submit each course code and we will assume you want a Team for each one
- Class List (Optional):
Provide either a class list or a list of student numbers if you would like us to pre-add your students when we create your Team. You can then add/remove students as needed. Class lists should be submitted as Excel files not PDFs.
How to Get Your Course Code from VIULearn (D2L):
- Log in to D2L at https://learn.viu.ca/
- Go to the course you want to request a team for.
- Select Faculty Tools > Course Admin in the navigation bar.
- Open Course Offering Information and copy the Course Offering Code.
If you don't have a D2L course, please provide us your course code from your classes SRS email address.
Step 3: Await Instructions from IT
The IT department will review your request and provide instructions once your Team has been created. After your new team has been created, refer to How Do I Use Teams? for instructions on how to use your new Microsoft Team.
