Body
TLP is a simple system used to control how sensitive information is shared. It's especially important in security, incident response, and vendor communications.
Here's how to interpret and use the different labels:
| TLP Label |
Meaning |
Who Can You Share With? |
| 🔴[TLP:RED] |

Only those in the room (or direct recipients of the content). Do not forward or discuss outside of the group. |
| 🟡[TLP:AMBER+STRICT] |
Extra-restricted version of AMBER. |
Only share within your own department or team at VIU. No external sharing. |
| 🟠[TLP:AMBER] |
Sensitive, but shareable with those who need to know. |
Share within VIU or with external parties who need the info to act. Do not share publicly. |
| 🟢[TLP:GREEN] |
OK to share within the organization. |
Share freely within the university, but not publicly. |
| ⚪[TLP:CLEAR] |
Public information. |
Anyone can see it, safe for public websites, social media, etc. |
Quick Tips
- Check for a TLP label before sharing.
- If you're unsure how to handle it, treat it as 🟠[TLP:AMBER] and ask.
- There's no expectation to start tagging all of your communications with TLP labels.
