How do I find my computer name?

For many requests, IT requires the full computer name of the system. This information is critical to differentiate between computers in the same location and allows us to deliver support remotely if the full computer name of the system is known.

Windows 10 or 11 

Method 1:

Type "name" into the task bar search box.  Click View your PC name.  Find Device name.

Method 2:

Right-click Start, then click System. The computer name will be listed in this window (see screenshot below).

macOS

On your Mac, click on the Apple menu and open System Settings.  Next, click General  in the sidebar (you may need to scroll down).  Click About and view your computer's name to the right of the Name field.

Older macOS Versions

On your Mac, click on the Apple menu and open System Preferences. Next, click Sharing. The computer name for your Mac appears at the top of Sharing preferences.
