Remote Control Operated

Rooms controlled by remote controls are equipped with a projector or TV, and a combination of the following:

  • Built-in PC
  • HDMI and/or VGA connections for personal devices
  • Document camera
  • DVD/VHS player

The remote control is usually found at the instructor station or front desk. 

System On and Off

System On

Press the ON button on the remote and wait 90 seconds for the projector to power up.

System Off

Press the OFF button on the remote. The projector will shut down after about 2 minutes.

Please turn the projector off before leaving the room. 

Use the PC
  1. Move the mouse or press a keyboard key to wake the PC. If nothing displays on the monitor:
    1. Check if the monitor power is on.
    2. Check if the PC power is on. 
  2. Sign in with your VIU credentials.
  3. Press the input button on the remote (NEC or Sony) to switch through inputs until the PC display appears. 
  4. Control volume on the PC.
  5. Sign out when done. 
Connect your own device

HDMI and/or VGA cables for laptop connections may be available at the instructor station or front desk. 

  1. Ensure your device is powered on.
  2. Plug the VGA or HDMI cable into your device.
    1. If you’re using VGA and require audio, connect the 3.5mm (headphone) audio cable.
  3. Press the input button on the remote to switch through inputs until the laptop display appears. 

If the picture doesn’t appear:

Windows: Press Windows  + P to select a presentation option (usually Duplicate).
Mac: Go to System > Preferences > Display > Arrangement > Mirror.

You may need to try up to 3 times. If there is still no picture on screen, reboot the laptop.
