Before You Begin: License Agreement Confirmation
By proceeding with the installation of NVivo 15, you agree not to share or post the provided license key online, as it violates the license agreement VIU has with the software company. NVivo licenses are provided for VIU employees and students engaged in education or research activities on behalf of Vancouver Island University. Any usage outside of these boundaries is prohibited. .
Eligibility Criteria
NVivo 15 is available for installation for students and employees on their personal devices. For installation on a VIU device, please contact the IT support team for assistance.
Installation Instructions for NVivo 15
NVivo is a powerful qualitative data analysis software that allows users to organize, analyze, and gain insights from their research data. The current version, NVivo 15, is available for installation on personal computers.
Step 1: Create LUMIVERO Profile

Log into LUMIVERO (my.lumivero.com) with your pre-existing account, or create a new account.
If creating a new account, you will need to provide an email address and enter a verification code sent to that address. You will then be prompted to set a password for the account and set some details:
- Country: Canada
- Province: BC
- Phone: Leave blank
- I plan to use to use Lumivero Solutions for: Myself
- Are you affiliated with an academic or corporate entity?: Yes
- Website: www.viu.ca
Step 2: Download NVivo 15
In Lumivero, select Download Apps on the left-hand column and the cl,ick the appropriate button for your Operating system of choice:
Step 3: Install
- Find the downloaded installation file, probably in Downloads and open it
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process
Step 4: Obtain License Key
- Follow this link to obtain the license key (a student or employee computer login is required; affiliate accounts will not work).
- Collect the license key.
Step 5: Activate NVivo
- Open the NVivo application from your start menu
- Click on or provide enterprise key to activate
- Enter the license key obtained in step 4
- Fill in the required files and click activate
By following these steps, you will successfully download and install NVivo 13 (2020 R1) for qualitative data analysis on your computer. If you encounter any issues, please refer to the NVivo support resources.
