How do I change my name?

If you are a VIU employee changing your legal first or last name, or want to use a preferred name instead of your legal name, please follow the process listed below:

  1. Download and complete the Name Change Request Form
  2. Submit the completed form to both ithelp@viu.ca and hr@viu.ca. Ensure this form is being sent from your @viu.ca email address. Forms sent in from personal email addresses will not be processed.
    • An IT ticket will be created for the name change process.
  3. HR will process the name change in your employee record
    • HR may require additional documentation to support the change. Be sure to monitor your email for any follow-up questions from either IT or HR.
  4. You will be contacted by an IT technician to assess the impact of the desired name change and prepare for the change to ensure you do not lose access to any VIU applications.
  5. IT will make the required network changes. If any follow up is needed, you may be notified again by the IT Technician.
  6. You will be notified when the name change process has been completed.
