VPN: How do I connect to the VPN on mobile? (Android/iOS)

Installing the GlobalProtect VPN Client

  1. Download the GlobalProtect app from the Google Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS)

  2. Open the GlobalProtect app from the Android or iOS home screen

  3. Type in vpn.viu.ca in the "Address" field, then click Connect

  4. GlobalProtect will ask if it can configure your VPN settings. It should look like one of the screenshots below. Click Allow or OK.

  5. Enter your VIU email address (e.g. jane.doe@viu.ca) and password, then click Sign In

  6. You will then be asked to Verify Your Identity. This is VIU's 2-Step Verification policy asking you to complete the verification steps. Depending on how you chose to setup your 2SV, you will verify either via Microsoft Authenticator app, hardware token, or text message. More information on VIU's 2SV policy can be found here. 

  7. You are now connected to the VPN

Connecting to the VPN

  1. Open the GlobalProtect app from the Android or iOS home screen

  2. Tap the shield icon to connect

Checking the Status of Your VPN Connection

  1. Open the GlobalProtect app from the Android or iOS home screen

  2. You should see the following screen if you are connected to the VPN:

Disconnecting from the VPN

  1. Open the GlobalProtect app from the Android or iOS home screen

  2. Tap the shield icon to disconnect
