Web Accessibility

VIU uses tools developed by, and available through the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative and WebAIM in order to evaluate how accessible your website is, and shows you how to make it better. Scans are performed weekly on VIU Drupal websites for web accessibility issues, misspellings and broken links. Reports of the scans are available via email.

The practice of accessible web content benefits people with disabilities as well as others, including:

  • older persons
  • persons in rural areas
  • persons in developing countries

An accessible website provides a better user experience, regardless of device, language, culture, location, or physical or mental ability.

VIU is committed to diversity and inclusiveness, with the goal of providing an accessible, usable and welcoming environment to all. Accessibility should be an integral part of any web project, and all web content should conform to W3C’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1.
