2SV: Log in with a Temporary Access Pass (TAP)

What Is a Temporary Access Pass (TAP)?

A Temporary Access Pass (TAP) is a 2SV method that allows you to bypass your password and existing 2SV methods to login. Getting a TAP does not change/reset your password. TAPs are provided by IT upon request in situations where your 2SV method is unavailable such as being forgotten at home, lost, damaged or replaced and not setup yet.

How do I request a TAP?

Please contact IT and have your Employee ID or Student ID on hand so we can verify your identity.

How do I use a TAP?

After a TAP is generated, the next time you attempt to login to a VIU Service that requires 2SV, you will be presented with a login page asking for your TAP instead of your password:

Enter your TAP and you'll be signed in. Your TAP can be used multiple times, on or off campus, until it expires 12 hours after being issued to you.

If you received a TAP because your 2SV method has been lost, stolen or replaced you should immediately go to My Security Info, add a new 2SV method, change your default sign-in method to the new 2SV method and remove the old one. Instructions for setting up a new 2SV method can be found on our main 2SV KB article.
