How do I change or reset my student record password?

Password Requirements

Using a Strong Password:

You are required to use at least 8 characters and 3 of the following 4 options:

• upper case letters
• lower case letters
• numbers
• special characters:  !@#$%^&*()_+={}

Your password cannot contain:

• Your first name, middle name, or last name

Note: Student Record Passwords will expire after 6 months and need to be changed.

Please Note:

You should never tell someone else your password (not even the IT department), as it is the only thing that ensures privacy of your account. You are responsible for how your account is used, so do not let other people have access to it.

Changing Your Password

1. Go to the student record page. Type your student number in the "student number" field.
2. From the left pane, select Personal Information, then Student Record Password or Security Question to change your student record password

Resetting Your Password (Forgotten Password)

1. Go to the student record page. Type your student number in the "student number" field.

2. Click I forget my Password
   

3. Type in the email address on file in your student account

4. Click Email my Online Student Record Password
   

5. You will receive two emails from VIU. One will contain a temporary password. Copy the password to the clipboard. Use that temporary password to log in to your student record.
   

6. You will be prompted to change your password. Use the temporary password provided as the current password.
