What is Software Center?
Software Center allows IT to deliver and update software applications across campus. Software Center will allow you to install a variety of licensed software, updates, and plug-ins on your own computer without having to contact IT for assistance.
NOTE: On newer VIU issued laptops, the Software Center is referred to as Company Portal. If you cannot find the Software Center, please refer to this ARTICLE
How do I install software?

If you are off campus, you will need to be connected to the VPN. If you are on campus, skip to the next step.

Click on Start

In the search box, type in "Software Center" without the quotes

Click on Software Center to open it

Click on Applications from the menu on the left to show all available applications

Select the appropriate software from the icons. You will be offered the option to install the application.

Click Install and the installation process will begin

Note: If you only see "uninstall" as an option, you already have the software installed:

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Software Center work on a Mac?
Software Center does not work on Mac computers. Please contact ithelp@viu.ca for help installing software on a VIU-issued Mac computer.
What if the software I want is not listed?
If you can't find something in the Software Center, please check out the Software at VIU page for instructions on requesting access to the software title you are looking for.
Troubleshooting
I'm receiving an error message
If you experience any difficulties trying to install software please get in touch with the IT Service Desk via email at ithelp@viu.ca. Include a screenshot of the error, the name of the software application you were trying to install/uninstall, and your computer name so the IT Service Desk can assist you as quickly as possible.
Software is not showing up, or is outdated
Are you off campus? If so, you will need to connect to the VPN. If you are on campus, skip to the next step.

Open the Software Centre from the start menu

Find and run the Refresh Software Centre option

If you still don't see the right software run Group Policy Update and Restart, then restart your computer when prompted, reboot and run the Refresh Software Centre option.

If you still cannot access the applications you expect to find, contact the IT service desk. Email ithelp@viu.ca and include your computer name with the request.
