DNS Settings on Windows

If the DNS settings are not set up to obtain addresses automatically, you may have difficulty connecting to VIU networks (VIU-Secure, VIU-Guest, VIU's VPN).  You can find information for connecting to the VIU Networks on the following articles:

If you are still unable to connect after following the instructions on the above articles, or IT is asking you to check your DNS Settings, please refer to the steps below.

  1. On your keyboard, push the Windows [⊞] + [R] keys at the same time
  2. In the field of the pop up, type ncpa.cpl and press [Enter] on the keyboard or 'OK' on the screenUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  1. In the screen showing all your network connections, right-click the relevant VIU network
  2. Click on 'Properties'
  3. Double-click the option closest to "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPV4)"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  1. Select "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  2. Click 'OK' and retry connecting to the VIU network
