How do I change my student password?

Password Requirements

Using a Strong Password:

You are required to use 3 of the following 4 options:

• upper case letters
• lower case letters
• numbers
• special characters:  !@#$%^&*()_+={}

Passwords will expire every 6 months for the following types of accounts:

• Student Computer Accounts
• Student Registration Accounts
  • A student’s initial registration account PIN is exempt from the standard. It is also exempt when it is manually reset by staff.

Please Note:
You should never tell someone else your password (not even a computer technician), as it is the only thing that ensures privacy of your account. You are responsible for how your account is used, so do not let other people have access to it.

How to Change Passwords

Important note! Students have 2 passwords:

1. Student record password - This is used for your student record only
2. Computer account password - This is used for logging in to VIU computers, VIULearn, VIU-Secure Wi-Fi, and Library Resources

Step 1 - Change Student Record Password

1. Log in to your student record
2. From the left pane, select Personal Information, then Student Record Password or Security Question to change your student record password

This is the password you will use for logging in to your student record

Step 2 - Change Computer Account Password

1. Log in to your student record
2. From the left pane, select Personal Information, then VIU Computer and VIULearn Account to change your student computer account password.

This is the password you will use for logging in to VIU computers, VIULearn, and WiFi

Students can also change their computer account passwords by:

• Going to Reset Student Password
• Pressing ctrl-alt-del then choose "change a password" when logged on to a VIU computer with your account
