A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a private communication network. VPN is used to establish a secure connection between a computer that is not on the VIU network (e.g. your home computer) and the VIU network using the Internet.

Avoid using both in the same login session, as unintended behaviour may occur. If you need to switch back and forth between the VPN solutions, please restart your computer between each session.

Why does GlobalProtect not remember my password?

Part of the goal of the GlobalProtect VPN was to enhance the cybersecurity at VIU, as such, this is expected behaviour.

GlobalProtect prompted me for my password a second time after closing itself, what happened?

Most likely, we updated the minimum supported version of the GlobalProtect Client and your computer downloaded the update. The client will only self update upon new connection so no active connections will be disrupted. Please refer to the IT Maintenance Email for a heads up on changes like this.
