What is a VPN?
A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a private communication network. VPN is used to establish a secure connection between a computer that is not on the VIU network (e.g. your home computer) and the VIU network using the Internet.
GlobalProtect is the system used to connect to the VPN at VIU.

Yes, Remote Desktop works over GlobalProtect.
What operating systems is GlobalProtect supported on by VIU?
Windows, MacOS, iOS, and Android. Other operating systems are not currently supported.
I am unable to access certain websites, what do I do?
Disconnect and reconnect to GlobalProtect. If the problem persists, please submit a ticket to ITHelp@viu.ca

Why does GlobalProtect not remember my password?
Part of the goal of the GlobalProtect VPN was to enhance the cybersecurity at VIU, as such, this is expected behaviour.
GlobalProtect prompted me for my password a second time after closing itself, what happened?
Most likely, we updated the minimum supported version of the GlobalProtect Client and your computer downloaded the update. The client will only self update upon new connection so no active connections will be disrupted. Please refer to the IT Maintenance Email for a heads up on changes like this.
